ECOWAS holds district sensitization tour in Sierra Leone

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), in partnership with the Government of Sierra Leone, has conducted a district sensitization and stakeholder engagement tour across four districts as part of activities marking its 50th anniversary.
The outreach, held from February 2 to 5, 2026, targeted schools, communities and local stakeholders to increase public awareness of ECOWAS’ mandate, programmes and achievements.
The regional body said the initiative was aimed at strengthening grassroots participation in regional integration and promoting its people-centred agenda.
ECOWAS noted that the tour reaffirmed its commitment to peace, democratic governance, youth and women empowerment, trade facilitation and inclusive socio-economic development.
The engagement was also aligned with ECOWAS Vision 2050, which seeks to build “an ECOWAS of the people” anchored on peace and shared prosperity across the region.
