The Economic Community of West African States, Economic Community of West African States, has marked its 50th anniversary with an official ceremony in Yamoussoukro, the political capital of Côte d’Ivoire.
The event, held on March 28 at the Félix Houphouët-Boigny Foundation for Peace Research, brought together government officials, diplomats and members of the public in a strong show of support for regional integration and cooperation.
The celebration was organised by the ECOWAS Commission’s Permanent Representation in Côte d’Ivoire in partnership with the ECOWAS National Office.
Chairing the ceremony, Niale Kaba, Côte d’Ivoire’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, urged West African countries to work towards a more united, sovereign and forward-looking region.
Speakers at the event said the large turnout reflected the continued commitment of West African governments and citizens to the ideals of solidarity, resilience and deeper regional integration.
