The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has intensified efforts to strengthen regional coordination in preparation for the World Radiocommunication Conference 2027 (WRC-27), with experts from member states meeting in Abuja to harmonise positions on key telecommunications issues.
The three-day meeting, organised by the ECOWAS Commission through its Directorate of Digital Economy and Post, commenced on June 16 and will run until June 18, 2026.
The gathering brings together telecommunications and radiocommunication experts from ECOWAS member countries to develop a regional consensus and formulate preliminary ECOWAS Common Positions (ECOCOP) for submission to the African Telecommunications Union (ATU).
According to the Commission, the positions agreed at the meeting will contribute to the development of African Common Proposals that will be presented at the World Radiocommunication Conference 2027.
ECOWAS said the initiative underscores West Africa’s commitment to promoting a coordinated and influential African voice in global discussions on spectrum management and satellite governance.
