The Enugu State Police Command has rescued a 25-year-old woman who was trafficked to Mali for prostitution and arrested a 69-year-old suspect, Eze Boniface, in connection with the case. The suspect was apprehended on January 21, 2026, at Igbo-Eze North Police Division following a complaint lodged by the victim’s parents.
Preliminary investigations indicate that in May 2023, Boniface and unidentified accomplices lured the victim with promises of a well-paying job at a foreign textile company, offering $100 daily. Instead, the victim was taken to Mali and reportedly forced into prostitution, with the syndicate allegedly earning 500,000 CFA francs from her exploitation.
Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has instructed the Deputy Commissioner in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to dismantle the trafficking network, uncover other related crimes, and apprehend all individuals involved. He also cautioned parents, guardians, and young people to be vigilant against false promises of lucrative jobs abroad to avoid falling prey to human traffickers.
SP Daniel Ndukwe, Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the development in Enugu on February 3, 2026.
