The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with a culpable homicide case in the Byazhin area of Abuja.
Police said the incident occurred on February 12, 2026, around 11:45 p.m., when the Byazhin Divisional Headquarters received a distress call that a 16-year-old boy, identified as Chidera Benjamin, had allegedly attacked his mother with a machete during a domestic dispute.
Officers were immediately deployed to the scene, where preliminary investigations showed that two neighbours, Cosmos Okafor, 31, and Okechukwu Wisdom, 17, allegedly assaulted the teenager in reaction to the attack on his mother.
Further inquiries indicated that the altercation was linked to claims that the boy had been transferring money from his mother’s bank account into his personal Opay account without her consent. When confronted, he allegedly became violent and inflicted serious injuries on her hand with a machete.
The neighbours, who reportedly witnessed the incident, attacked the teenager, leaving him severely injured and unconscious. He was rushed to Kubwa General Hospital, where he was later confirmed dead by medical personnel.
Police said the two suspects were promptly arrested and are currently in custody.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, commiserated with the family and urged residents to adopt peaceful and lawful means of resolving disputes, warning against taking the law into their own hands.
He said the suspects would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.
The command also urged residents to report suspicious persons or activities through its emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08028940883.
