The FCT Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers in connection with a deadly January attack in the Asokoro area of Abuja that left a security guard dead and valuables stolen.
The suspects — Amaechi Edemba, 46, and Kelechi Nwokoro, 48 — were apprehended between February 12 and 19, 2026, following an intelligence-driven operation by operatives of the Command’s Scorpion Squad.
Police said the arrests followed a complaint that armed men had invaded a residence in Asokoro, killed a guard on duty, and made away with cash, a vehicle, and other valuables.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Nwokoro, a former security guard employed by the victim, allegedly masterminded the attack after he was dismissed in January over alleged negligence. Investigators said he teamed up with Edemba and recruited four other accomplices from neighbouring Nasarawa State to carry out the operation.
According to the police, Nwokoro leveraged his familiarity with the residence to disable its CCTV system and cut off electricity supply before leading the gang into the premises. The attackers reportedly overpowered and strangled the on-duty guard, identified as Ishaku Marcus, before fleeing with cash, jewellery, laptops, wrappers and a silver Toyota Camry, among other items.
Police said the stolen vehicle and other exhibits have been recovered, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects still at large.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Miller G. Dantawaye, commended the operatives for their professionalism and urged residents to profile domestic staff with the police before employment.
He also called on members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through the Command’s emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08028940883.
The statement was issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh.
