The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has foiled a kidnapping attempt in the FCT Police Foil Kidnap Attempt in Abuja, recovering an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, and other exhibits during a gun duel with suspected kidnappers.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Josephine Adeh, the incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, June 5, 2026, at about 12:34 a.m., when operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit acted on intelligence regarding the movement of suspected kidnappers around the Redeemed Church area near Paze Hills in Byazhin.
The police team, led by the Officer Commanding the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, reportedly stormed the location and discovered that the armed suspects were attempting to break into a residence to abduct its occupants.
The suspects were said to have opened fire on sighting the operatives, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire that lasted for over 30 minutes.
Police operatives eventually overpowered the attackers, forcing them to flee into nearby bushes with suspected gunshot injuries, while the kidnapping attempt was successfully foiled.Items recovered from the scene included one AK-47 rifle, one magazine, and seven rounds of live ammunition.
The intended victims, identified as Mr. Samson and his wife, were rescued unharmed and taken to the General Hospital in Gwarinpa for treatment following trauma-related distress before being placed under protective custody.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, commended the operatives for their bravery and professionalism, assuring residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the territory.
He also directed increased surveillance patrols in the area to prevent further criminal activities and urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing useful information to security agencies.
