The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has foiled an attempted armed robbery in the Kado area of Abuja, arresting one suspect and recovering several exhibits.
Police said the incident occurred around 6:15 a.m. on Friday, January 23, 2026, following a distress call to the Mabushi Divisional Headquarters reporting that about three armed men were attacking motorists near the MRS Filling Station in Kado.
A police response team from the Mabushi Division swiftly mobilised to the scene. On sighting the officers, the suspects reportedly attempted to escape, resulting in a hot pursuit and an exchange of gunfire. One of the suspects sustained gunshot injuries during the encounter and was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, while the remaining suspects fled into surrounding bushes.
Exhibits recovered at the scene included the suspects’ operational vehicle—a black Volkswagen Golf 2 with registration number JJJ 112 DW—one Beretta pistol, one locally made pistol, a Firman generator, two mobile phones, an Access Bank ATM card, and other items believed to be tools and personal effects of the suspects.
The police said efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to the protection of lives and property across the territory. He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through the police emergency lines.
