Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have recovered a stolen vehicle and arrested a suspect, while also seizing arms and ammunition in separate security operations across Abuja.
Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said a resident of Galadimawa reported at the Mabushi Police Division on March 9, 2026, that his dark grey Toyota Corolla S with registration number KAB 83 BF had been stolen in Kaduna State on April 5, 2024.
Following the report, police operatives launched an intelligence-led operation and successfully traced and recovered the vehicle the same day from a suspect, Blessing Ohwobete, in Dutse Alhaji area of Abuja. The suspect and the vehicle are currently in police custody as investigations continue.
In another development, officers attached to the Maitama Division arrested a suspected armed robber and cultist, Abiola Yakubu, 45, during a stop-and-search operation at Diamond Junction in Wuse II on March 13.
Police said the suspect attempted to evade a checkpoint and later opened fire on officers while trying to escape. He was overpowered and arrested after a chase. A locally made pistol with one expended cartridge was recovered from him.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Yakubu is allegedly linked to a cult group and reportedly obtained the firearm from a gang member identified as Jasper.
The Commissioner of Police in charge of the FCT Command, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, has ordered a thorough investigation to trace the source of the weapon and apprehend other gang members still at large.
Meanwhile, operatives of the Anti–One Chance Unit also recovered arms and ammunition during a surveillance patrol around the Gudu area of Abuja in the early hours of March 13.
Police said suspects on a motorcycle fled after sighting officers and discarded a bag while escaping. A search of the bag revealed a pistol with six rounds of live 9mm ammunition, a locally fabricated gun with three cartridges, a wire cutter and a cutlass.
Authorities say efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and determine the origin of the recovered weapons.
