FG Declares May 1 Public Holiday for Workers’ Day


The Federal Government has declared Friday, May 1, 2026, a public holiday to mark this year’s International Workers’ Day, underscoring the vital contributions of Nigerian workers to national growth and development.


The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the government, according to a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani.


In the message, the minister congratulated workers nationwide and commended them for their resilience, diligence, and unwavering commitment to national service. He noted that their efforts remain central to Nigeria’s economic progress and overall prosperity.
Tunji-Ojo further emphasised that the productivity and dedication of the workforce are essential to achieving sustainable development goals.
