The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has credited its partnership with the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) for the reduction in traffic offences and road crashes across the Federal Capital Territory.
FCT Sector Commander of the FRSC, Corps Commander Tijjani Iliyasu, made the remark during a courtesy visit to the Controller of Corrections, FCT Command, Christopher Peter Jen, at the Command Headquarters in Abuja.
He said the establishment of a Non-Custodial Desk Office at the FRSC Sector Command and the deployment of Correctional Officers to mobile courts have strengthened the prompt prosecution of traffic offenders, contributing to improved road safety.
The Sector Commander, however, noted that recklessness, disregard for traffic laws and unsafe driving habits remain major causes of road crashes. He urged motorists to obey traffic regulations and avoid behaviours that endanger lives.
In his response, Controller Christopher Peter Jen reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigerian Correctional Service to supporting the FRSC’s road safety initiatives.
He also highlighted the Service’s mandate of reforming, rehabilitating and reintegrating offenders, while both agencies agreed to deepen collaboration in promoting safer roads in the FCT.
