GIABA to Hold Regional Workshop for Civil Society Organisations on Anti-Money Laundering, Counter-Terrorism Financing in Senegal
The Inter-Governmental Action Group against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA), a specialised institution of ECOWAS, will convene a three-day regional sensitisation workshop for Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) on Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) requirements from June 22 to 24, 2026, in Saly, Senegal.

The workshop, scheduled to take place at the Palm Beach Hotel, aims to strengthen the capacity of CSOs across West Africa to actively participate in the fight against money laundering and terrorism financing.
Organisers said the programme will provide participants with knowledge and practical tools to support advocacy, information dissemination, and the effective implementation of AML/CFT measures at national and regional levels.

According to GIABA, the growing threats posed by money laundering and terrorism financing require the involvement of all stakeholders, including civil society groups. The organisation noted that since 2011, it has prioritised strategic partnerships with the private sector, civil society, and other key actors to combat economic and financial crimes in the region.

The workshop will also focus on building a strong network of West African CSOs engaged in AML/CFT initiatives.
Discussions will cover regional trends in money laundering and terrorism financing, GIABA’s mandate and regional initiatives, the role of civil society in combating financial crimes, and strategies for strengthening collaboration among CSOs.

GIABA said the event is expected to raise awareness of the dangers posed by money laundering and terrorism financing, enhance support for its objectives, increase civil society participation in policy advocacy, and promote peace, security, and stability across member states.
