Gunmen have reportedly killed at least nine people in a fresh attack on Dorowa Babuje community in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Sources say the assailants stormed a bar in the community on Sunday night and opened fire indiscriminately, leaving nine people dead and several others injured. The wounded victims have been taken to hospital for treatment.
A resident, Dauda Sunday, told Daily Trust that he saw several bodies at the scene, while another victim had already been evacuated to a medical facility. He said residents were going about their normal activities when the attackers invaded the area and began shooting at people in the bar.
The National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders Association, Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the incident. He also disclosed that an armed group suspected to be Fulani militants had earlier ambushed a resident of Jol community in Riyom Local Government Area.
According to him, the ambush occurred along the Jol–Sho road at about 3:11 p.m. on Friday as the victim and a woman were returning from Barkin Ladi. The victim sustained severe injuries and was later confirmed dead at a hospital in Barkin Ladi.
