The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Monday decorated eight senior officers recently promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs) during a ceremony held at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Speaking at the event, the police chief described the decoration as more than a ceremonial exercise, noting that the elevation to the rank of DIG represents recognition of years of dedicated service, professional excellence, and leadership within the Nigeria Police Force. He urged the newly promoted officers to provide strategic leadership, strengthen internal discipline, and drive reforms within the Force.
Disu also charged them to ensure that policing strategies remain responsive to evolving security challenges across the country, stressing the need to utilise their experience in intelligence-led policing, operational coordination, inter-agency collaboration, and accountability to build public trust and confidence in the Force.
The IGP expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support to the Nigeria Police Force and commended the Police Service Commission for maintaining transparency and professionalism throughout the promotion process. He also acknowledged the families of the newly promoted officers for their sacrifices and support over the years.
The newly decorated DIGs are Zachariah Fera Achinyan; Zango Ibrahim Baba; Isyaku Mohammed; Margaret Agebe Ochalla; Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman; Kenechukwu Onwuemelie; Fayoade Adegoke Mustapha; and Umar Shehu Nadada.
The Inspector-General, the newly promoted DIGs, alongside the Force Secretary, Assistant Inspector-General of Police Olabode Adeleye Akinbamilowo, now form the new Force Management Team.
Among dignitaries present at the ceremony were the Chairman of the House Committee on Air Force, Kabir Alhassan Rurum; Director-General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS, Dr. Temitope Ilori; former Head of the Civil Service, Danladi Kefas; former Chairman of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, Engr. Jide Adeniji; Kogi State Commissioner, Muhammed Abdulmutalik; the Zazzau of Zaria; Mrs. Arese Arase, wife of former IGP Solomon Arase; former DSS spokesperson, Marilyn Ogar; and retired senior police officers including AIG Austin Iwa and CP Alobi.
