The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has presented cheques worth ₦2.4 billion to families of deceased police officers, reaffirming the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to personnel welfare.

The cheques were distributed to 1,075 beneficiaries and next-of-kin under the Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Schemes at a ceremony held at Force Headquarters.

The total sum of ₦2,435,421,584.11 covers multiple policy years, including 2018/2019 through 2025/2026, as well as outstanding insurance claims from previous years.

Speaking at the event, Force Insurance Officer, Lydia Ameh, said the disbursement reflects the IGP’s resolve to prioritise the welfare of officers and their families. She noted that the payments include recoveries from long-standing insurance obligations and assured that measures have been put in place to ensure prompt settlement of future claims.

The police boss also pledged to strengthen welfare systems, improve administrative processes, and deploy technology to enhance transparency and accountability in the management of benefits.
