Nigeria’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Spain, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, has formally commenced his diplomatic assignment in the country following the presentation of his Letters of Credence to King Felipe VI.
The ceremony was held at the Royal Palace in Madrid on Monday, September 14, 2026.
During the ceremony, Ambassador Ikpeazu conveyed the greetings and best wishes of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the Spanish monarch, government and people.
Ikpeazu reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Spain, particularly in trade and investment, energy, infrastructure, agriculture, education, culture, tourism and security.
He also expressed Nigeria’s readiness to collaborate with the Spanish government, institutions and private sector to expand trade and investment opportunities between both countries.
Speaking at a reception hosted by the Nigerian Embassy in Madrid after the ceremony, the ambassador called for the revitalisation of existing bilateral agreements to reflect current economic and diplomatic priorities.
He specifically highlighted the Nigeria-Spain Bilateral Air Service Agreement, stressing the need for improved direct air connectivity to boost trade, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.
Ikpeazu also acknowledged the contributions of Nigerians living in Spain, describing them as an important link between the two countries.
He pledged that the Nigerian Embassy would continue to promote and protect the interests of Nigerian nationals while working to deepen cooperation between Nigeria and Spain.
