The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, has urged staff of the commission to remain committed to professionalism and integrity, stressing that the commission cannot afford to disappoint Nigerians in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an official working visit and interactive session with management and staff at the INEC headquarters in Minna, Niger State, on Friday, Amupitan warned against any form of compromise, noting that both Nigerians and the international community would closely monitor the conduct of the elections.
He said the commission must deliver credible, transparent and peaceful polls, adding that election observers from across Africa and other parts of the world had already expressed interest in observing Nigeria’s electoral process.
The INEC Chairman disclosed that the commission was strengthening logistics, infrastructure and transportation across state offices to improve election management and avoid the shortcomings experienced in previous polls.
Amupitan, who assumed office nine months ago, reiterated his commitment to restoring public confidence in the electoral body through free, fair and credible elections. He said achieving that goal would depend largely on the dedication and integrity of staff across the country.
He announced that outstanding performance would be rewarded, while acts of misconduct would attract stiff disciplinary measures, urging personnel to shun corruption and discharge their responsibilities selflessly.
On staff welfare, the INEC Chairman revealed that the commission had commenced a review of employees’ welfare packages nationwide to boost morale and enhance productivity.
He noted that improving staff welfare was one of the key priorities identified upon assuming office.
Amupitan also inspected the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise at a registration centre within the commission’s headquarters in Minna.
