The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved the promotion of 2,339 personnel under its 2025 Senior Staff Promotion Exercise.
The decision was taken at the Commission’s meeting held on Thursday, February 26, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen administrative efficiency and enhance leadership capacity ahead of upcoming electoral activities.
INEC said the exercise reflects its commitment to staff career progression, institutional continuity and organisational stability.
At the Directorate level (Grade Levels 16–17), 45 Deputy Directors were elevated to Directors. Of the number, 18 will continue in active service, while 27 are expected to retire shortly after their promotion in accordance with public service regulations.
At Grade Levels 15–16, 91 Assistant Directors were promoted to Deputy Directors. Similarly, 82 Chief Officers on Grade Levels 14–15 advanced to the rank of Assistant Directors.
The promotion exercise also covered 2,121 intermediate officers on Grade Levels 07–13 across various departments, indicating a broad-based advancement across multiple cadres within the Commission.
INEC stated that the process was conducted in strict compliance with established guidelines and existing public service rules to ensure transparency, merit and fairness.
The Commission stressed that the promotions demonstrate its resolve to reward dedication, competence and years of service, while maintaining leadership depth and institutional memory.
It added that the strengthened workforce will support the delivery of credible, transparent and efficient electoral processes nationwide.
