INEC to Release 2027 Election Timetable Despite Electoral Act Delays

Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is set to make public the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections, even as the National Assembly (NASS) has yet to pass the amended Electoral Act, reports say.

INEC Deputy Director of Publicity, Wilfred Ifogah, stated in a press release that the Commission’s Chairman, Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, will hold a world press conference this afternoon at INEC headquarters in Abuja to unveil the notice of the 2027 elections.

Last week, Amupitan had confirmed that the Commission has finalized the election timetable and schedule of activities while awaiting the passage of the proposed amendments into law by NASS. He noted that INEC had already submitted recommendations on the amendments to the National Assembly, but the timing of the law’s passage could influence parts of the election schedule.

Amupitan emphasized that until the amended Electoral Act is enacted, INEC will continue to operate under the existing law.

In line with this, the Commission is expected to officially announce the timetable and activities for the 2027 polls today.
