liberia Ecowas Talks Digital Reforms Telecom Cooperation

The Chairman of the Liberia Telecommunications Authority, Clarence Massaquoi, has held talks with the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr Omar Alieu Touray, on strengthening digital reforms in Liberia and enhancing regional cooperation in the telecommunications sector.
The meeting, which took place in Abuja on Thursday, January 29, 2026, during Massaquoi’s official visit to Nigeria, focused on modernising Liberia’s digital ecosystem and aligning national initiatives with broader West African objectives.
Massaquoi briefed the ECOWAS Commission President on ongoing efforts under the West African Telecommunications Regulators’ Assembly (WATRA) to harmonise telecommunications policies across the subregion by 2026, with the aim of boosting investment in digital infrastructure, reducing communication costs, and accelerating digital transformation.
Discussions also highlighted the importance of deeper regulatory alignment, expanded digital infrastructure, and supportive policies to build a more integrated, inclusive, and resilient telecommunications market across West Africa.
The engagement underscores renewed commitment toward creating a unified regional digital space that delivers benefits to governments, businesses, and citizens across the subregion.
