The Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office (MCO) has inducted 111 newly recruited employees, charging them to strictly adhere to public service regulations and build reputations anchored on integrity and professionalism.
The induction ceremony, held in Abuja, forms part of the agency’s efforts to strengthen its workforce and enhance service delivery in the administration and management of mineral titles across the country.
Speaking at the event, the Director-General of MCO, Engr. Simon Obadiah, said the one-day induction programme and administration of the oath of secrecy were designed to familiarize the new employees with public service rules, governance principles, and workplace ethics.
According to him, civil service regulations remain essential for maintaining discipline and ensuring effective governance.
“The rules are there to guide everyone and make the service better. Governance is about the people, and public servants must understand their responsibilities,” he said.
Obadiah urged the inductees to distinguish themselves through diligence and integrity.
“You must adhere strictly to the rules and, most importantly, make a name for yourself. From the day you are employed in the civil service, you begin building your reputation. What do you want your colleagues and supervisors to remember you for?” he asked.
The induction programme featured training sessions on the operations of the Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office, public service regulations, and financial management guidelines.
Delivering a lecture, Director of Human Resources at the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, Mrs. Ijeoma Idika, described induction as a critical process for orienting newly recruited officers.
She said the programme helps employees understand their work environment, the mandate of their organisation, and the expectations of management.
Also speaking, MCO’s Director of Monitoring and Coordination, Yakubu Muri, encouraged the new staff to give their best and take advantage of the support available from the agency’s leadership.
“We have a leader who is willing to provide the necessary support. Come with an open mind, put in your best, and your efforts will be recognised,” he said.
Earlier, the Director of Administration, Okechukwu Nwagbara, noted that over 100 staff had been recruited under the tenure of the current Director-General, describing it as a significant achievement.
He reminded the employees that the civil service operates within a framework of rules and regulations, stressing that commitment, dedication, and productivity would be rewarded, while violations would attract sanctions.
One of the inductees, Olamijulo Oluwapelumi, expressed appreciation for the orientation programme, describing the Director-General’s remarks as inspiring.
He said the message that resonated most with him was the call to “make a name for yourself in service,” pledging to remain loyal, disciplined, and diligent in carrying out his duties.
The event concluded with management staff offering words of advice and encouragement to the newly inducted employees.
