MIDDLE EAST TENSIONS: Nigeria Police Force Assures Citizens of Heightened Security Measures

The Nigeria Police Force has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the country amid rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and their possible global impact.

Acting Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, said the Force remains vigilant and fully prepared to maintain national peace and security. He emphasized that Nigeria’s internal security situation remains stable and under control.

According to the police chief, proactive and intelligence-driven policing strategies have been strengthened nationwide. Commissioners of Police in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory have been directed to intensify surveillance and intelligence gathering, particularly in the North West, North East, and North Central regions.

The IGP also ordered enhanced collaboration with traditional and religious leaders, increased visible policing around worship centres and other public spaces, and swift action against any individuals or groups seeking to exploit international developments to incite unrest or sectarian divisions.

The Force stressed that Nigeria will not become a battleground for foreign conflicts, warning that any attempt to import external ideological or religious tensions into the country would attract the full weight of the law.

Disu urged community leaders to continue promoting unity and called on citizens to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, encouraging the prompt reporting of suspicious activities to the nearest police formation.

The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its readiness and resolve to protect all Nigerians and ensure the nation’s security at all times.

The statement was issued by Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin.
