Minister Meets Vatican Envoy, Reaffirms Nigeria–Holy See Ties

The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic relations with the Holy See.

She made this known on Friday during a meeting with the Apostolic Nuncio and Ambassador of the Holy See to Nigeria, Michael Crotty, at her office in Abuja.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu emphasized the importance of deepening cooperation between Nigeria and the Vatican in key areas including interreligious dialogue, health, education, culture, tourism, migration, and counter-terrorism, under the leadership of Pope Francis.

The minister also highlighted the Renewed Hope Agenda of Bola Tinubu, noting that it is aimed at strengthening democratic institutions and revitalizing the nation’s economy.

Addressing security concerns, she dismissed what she described as exaggerated reports in parts of the international media, particularly claims of targeted religious violence, stating that insecurity in Nigeria is not directed at any specific group and is being actively tackled by the government.

She further commended the Vatican for its continued efforts toward promoting global peace.
