The Nasarawa State Police Command has announced the arrest of a suspected arms trafficker and the recovery of 174 rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 live ammunition in its ongoing efforts to tackle illegal arms movement and criminal activities across the state.
The Command said operatives of the Toto Division made the arrest on Monday, June 22, 2026, during a routine patrol along the Toto–Abaji Road.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, the suspect, identified as Abubakar Abdullahi, was intercepted with the ammunition concealed in his possession.
The police said the suspect was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation on the source, ownership, or intended destination of the ammunition during preliminary questioning.
Abdullahi is currently in police custody as investigations continue to unravel the network behind the illegal transportation of the arms and identify other persons linked to the offence.
The Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, reiterated the Command’s commitment to eliminating illegal arms trafficking and other forms of criminality in the state.
The CP warned criminals that the Command would continue to deploy intelligence-led policing, surveillance, and strategic operations to track and bring offenders to justice.
“There will be no safe haven for criminals in Nasarawa State. We are determined to identify, track, and bring every offender to justice,” Mohammed said.
He urged residents to remain law-abiding and support security agencies by providing credible information that could assist ongoing efforts to improve security across the state.
The Command maintained that it would sustain its zero-tolerance policy against crime and criminal activities while ensuring the protection of lives and property.
