The Delta State Police Command has presented cheques worth more than ₦16.6 million to the families of 13 deceased police officers as part of activities marking the 2026 National Police Week.
The presentation, held on Thursday in Asaba, was the climax of week-long activities organised by the command ahead of the grand finale scheduled for the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
A total of ₦16,679,749.92 was distributed to the beneficiaries in a move aimed at supporting the families of officers who died in the line of duty.
Speaking at the event, Yemi Oyeniyi described the occasion as solemn and significant, saying it demonstrated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to the welfare of its personnel and their families.
He assured the beneficiaries that the force would continue to stand by them and provide support whenever necessary.
“The sacrifices of our fallen officers remain invaluable and will never be forgotten,” the police commissioner said, while urging the families to make proper use of the financial support.
One of the beneficiaries, Ahanuwa Raphael, who spoke on behalf of the others, thanked the Inspector-General of Police and the Delta State Police Command for the gesture.
He said the support would go a long way in helping the affected families and prayed for continued success and strength for the Nigeria Police Force.
