The National Sports Commission has praised the Nigeria Aquatics Federation and Team Nigeria athletes for their impressive performance at the 17th Africa Aquatics Championships held in Oran from May 5 to 10, 2026.
Team Nigeria finished the continental competition with three bronze medals and several outstanding performances, earning further recognition for the country’s growing profile in aquatics sports across Africa.
Director General of the commission, Bukola Olopade, commended the athletes, coaches, and officials for representing the country proudly at the championships.
Olopade described the outing as further evidence of Nigeria’s steady progress across various sporting disciplines, noting that the achievements in Algeria reflected the dedication and hard work of the federation and all stakeholders involved.
He added that beyond winning medals, the recognition received by Nigeria as one of the fastest-developing nations in African aquatics highlighted the significant strides being made in the sport.
