The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has recorded major successes in its fight against drug trafficking and abuse over the past five years, Chairman/CEO Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) has revealed.
Speaking at the 11th Chairman/CEO (CCEO) Awards and Commendation ceremony at NDLEA headquarters in Abuja, Marwa said the agency has arrested 77,792 suspects—including 128 high-profile drug barons—secured 14,225 convictions, and seized over 14.8 million kilograms of illicit drugs. He described the figures as a clear message that Nigeria is no longer a safe haven for drug traffickers.
Marwa urged officers to intensify intelligence-led operations against drug cartels, traffickers, and mules in his second tenure. He also highlighted the agency’s efforts in drug demand reduction, noting that 32,442 users received treatment and rehabilitation, while 13,735 awareness programs were conducted nationwide.
The CCEO Awards honoured 166 personnel from 17 commands for outstanding service, with Marwa urging the force to draw inspiration from the awardees and remain proactive in combating the scourge of drugs. He thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, international partners, civil society, and the media for their support, pledging continued vigilance in protecting Nigeria’s youth and communities.
