NDLEA Seizes Illicit Drugs Hidden in Water Purifiers, Intercepts Military-Grade Ammunition in Kaduna

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has uncovered consignments of illicit drugs concealed in water purifier machines imported from the Netherlands and shipped to Lagos.
According to the agency, operatives discovered and seized three kilograms of ketamine and 199 grams of MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy, hidden inside the machines at a courier company in Lagos on May 26, 2026.
In Kaduna State, NDLEA officers arrested a couple, Musa Sunday and Mercy Sunday, alongside a third suspect, Salomi Ezekiel, 38, after recovering 100 jumbo bags of skunk weighing 1,246 kilograms from their residence in the Gonin Gora area on May 24.
On the same day, operatives on patrol along the Abuja-Kaduna Highway near Jere intercepted a 30-year-old suspect, Sunusi Musa, who was allegedly transporting 380 rounds of military-grade 7.62mm ammunition to Katsina State. The suspect and the ammunition were subsequently handed over to the relevant security agency for further investigation and action.
In Niger State, acting on intelligence, NDLEA operatives raided a warehouse in Gidan Kukah, Bosso Local Government Area, where 457 kilograms of skunk were recovered on May 27. A suspect, Godwin Zakka, 46, was later arrested at his residence in the Gbeganu area of Minna in connection with the seizure.
Similarly, in Enugu State, operatives conducting patrols along the Onitsha-Enugu Expressway intercepted a commercial vehicle travelling to Taraba State on May 28. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 22,000 tramadol pills, 100 ampoules of pentazocine, and 200 grams of bromazepam. One suspect, James Maigari Wisdom, was arrested.
The agency also continued its nationwide War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation campaign, organising awareness lectures in schools and communities across several states, including Cross River, Taraba, Lagos, and Anambra.
Commending officers of the Kaduna, Niger, and Enugu Commands, as well as the Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI), NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Mohamed Buba Marwa, praised their efforts in reducing drug supply and advancing anti-drug awareness campaigns. He urged personnel across the country to remain steadfast in the fight against drug trafficking and abuse.
