The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (National Drug Law Enforcement Agency) has arrested a 41-year-old Brazil-based businessman, Abugu Oliver Ikechukwu, for allegedly importing 6.10 kilograms of liquid cocaine concealed in shirts and towels into Nigeria.
The suspect was apprehended at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on Thursday, June 11, 2026, shortly after arriving from São Paulo via Addis Ababa on an Ethiopian Airlines flight. A search of his luggage reportedly uncovered 14 shirts and towels soaked in liquid cocaine, dried and ironed for concealment.
In his statement, the suspect claimed he has lived in Brazil for over 14 years, where he runs an African restaurant, adding that he travelled to Nigeria to visit his wife and purchase food items in bulk.
In a separate development, the agency also detained a 60-year-old woman, Chidimma Sunday, and a 28-year-old man, Abubakar Usman—both persons living with disabilities—for alleged involvement in drug trafficking in Abia and Rivers States respectively.
The suspects were found with various quantities of cannabis, methamphetamine, tramadol, and other controlled substances during separate arrests between June 9 and June 10.
Elsewhere, NDLEA operatives carried out multiple raids across the country, leading to several arrests and seizures. In Delta State, a suspect, Onya Jude, was arrested with cannabis concealed in gas cylinders. In Gombe State, two suspected dealers were apprehended with blocks of skunk.
In Kano State, another suspect was caught transporting thousands of tramadol tablets along the Zaria–Kano route.
In Kwara State, officers intercepted two men conveying over 300 kilograms of cannabis in a vehicle along the Bode Saadu axis, while in Taraba State, a major warehouse raid led to the recovery of over 1,100 kilograms of cannabis sativa.
In the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, operatives seized large quantities of tramadol, pregabalin, molly, and codeine-based syrup from a suspect arrested along the Gwagwalada expressway.
In Lagos, a separate seizure of over 1,100 kilograms of Ghana Loud was recovered around the Alaba International Market area.
The NDLEA also intensified its nationwide War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign through sensitization programmes in schools, communities, and traditional institutions across several states.
Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended officers involved in the operations, urging them to sustain and improve on ongoing drug supply reduction and public awareness efforts nationwide.
