Nigeria Commends Outgoing Mexican Ambassador, Reaffirms Bilateral Ties

The Federal Government has commended the outgoing Ambassador of Mexico to Nigeria, Alfredo Miranda Ortiz, for his contributions to strengthening diplomatic relations between both countries.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, gave the commendation through the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dunoma Umar Ahmed, during a farewell meeting held at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.
During the meeting, Ambassador Ortiz expressed appreciation to the Nigerian government for its cooperation and support throughout his nearly four-year tenure, noting that relations between Nigeria and Mexico had advanced significantly through increased diplomatic engagement and structured bilateral dialogue.
He highlighted key achievements during his tenure, including the establishment of the Nigeria–Mexico Chamber of Commerce and the appointment of an Honorary Consul in Lagos. He also pointed to strengthened economic ties, particularly in agricultural trade, citing collaboration that has boosted the export of hibiscus from Nigeria to Mexico.
The Permanent Secretary conveyed the minister’s apologies for his absence due to prior engagements, while reaffirming his appreciation for the ambassador’s service. He noted the steady growth in trade relations between both countries, including increased investment in Nigeria’s agricultural sector and diversification of export commodities.
He also emphasized Nigeria’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for foreign investment and encouraged Mexican investors to explore opportunities in agriculture and agro-processing, as well as emerging sectors such as manufacturing, mining, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, and the digital economy.
The ministry further noted that 2026 marks 50 years of diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Mexico, describing it as a milestone that reflects the enduring partnership between the two nations.
In his response, Ambassador Ortiz expressed gratitude for the recognition and pledged to continue promoting Nigeria–Mexico relations even after his retirement from diplomatic service.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation at the end of the meeting.
