The Nigeria Police Force has arrested Adeniyi Adeyemi, who claims to be the Director-General of the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), in Osun State following a bench warrant issued by a Federal High Court in Abuja.
Confirming the arrest on Tuesday, the spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, Abiodun Ojelabi, said operatives of the Intelligence Response Team from Abuja apprehended Adeyemi at a location in the state. He said the suspect would be transferred to Abuja for further legal proceedings.
Adeyemi’s arrest came shortly after Justice Mohammed Umar issued a bench warrant for his arrest when he failed to appear for arraignment on an eight-count charge bordering on alleged conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.
The prosecution told the court that Adeyemi allegedly operated the purported PFIPC, an organisation the Presidency has repeatedly said does not exist. Justice Umar granted the prosecution’s oral application for a warrant and adjourned the case until September 30, 2026, for arraignment.
Police investigators further alleged that Adeyemi forged official government documents, including a purported presidential appointment letter, falsely presented himself as the council’s Director-General, and operated from an office within the Federal Secretariat Complex in Abuja.
The arrest occurred less than a day after Adeyemi, during a television interview, denied being on the run and called for an independent investigation into his claims regarding the disputed appointment.
