The Nigeria Police Force, through the Force Intelligence Department-Special Tactical Squad (FID-STS), says it has intensified intelligence-led operations against violent crimes, organised criminal networks and other threats to national security.
The development was disclosed during a press briefing by the FID-STS on Thursday, August 27, 2026, where the police announced several breakthroughs, including the arrest of suspects linked to alleged illegal organ harvesting, armed robbery, car snatching and drug trafficking.
The police said the operations were carried out in different parts of the country in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
Four arrested over alleged organ harvesting syndicate
The FID-STS said four suspects had been arrested in connection with an alleged criminal conspiracy, human trafficking and illegal organ harvesting syndicate.
The suspects were identified as 23-year-old Emmanuel Ode; 48-year-old Dr Benjamin Oyime, a nephrologist from Edo State; 53-year-old Dr Daniel Otukpa, also a nephrologist from Benue State; and 25-year-old David Idoko.
According to the police, the suspects were arrested on August 19, 2026, during a sting operation in Auta Baleifi, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, following credible intelligence.
The police alleged that Ode confessed to recruiting victims under false pretences. He reportedly told investigators that on April 24, 2026, he lured a 22-year-old man, identified as Samuel Ezekiel, to a hospital where his kidney was allegedly harvested for $1,250, equivalent to about ₦1.7 million.
Another alleged victim, David Idoko, reportedly told investigators that he was lured by the same agent in 2022 to a hospital where his kidney was allegedly harvested and that he was paid ₦7 million.
Preliminary investigations, according to the police, showed that the syndicate allegedly targeted vulnerable and poorly educated young people in Nasarawa State and neighbouring areas, exploiting their financial difficulties to obtain consent for illegal organ harvesting.
The police further alleged that the suspects forged documents, including victims’ names, National Identification Numbers, birth certificates, age declarations, affidavits and consent letters, to facilitate the alleged crimes.
Police said efforts were ongoing to arrest other members of the syndicate who were still at large.
Five arrested over alleged ₦100m armed robbery
The FID-STS also announced the arrest of five suspects in connection with an alleged armed robbery involving a mobile phone dealer.
The suspects were identified as 23-year-old Okori Joyus, 53-year-old Yetunde Lasisi, 20-year-old Usen Samuel, 25-year-old Usen Wisdom and 56-year-old Quadri Oluwadare.
The police said 81 mobile phones and 196 chargers were recovered from the suspects.
According to the police, the investigation followed a petition submitted to the Inspector-General of Police by Sanniphil Company, a dealer in mobile phones and accessories.
The company reportedly alleged that its vehicle, conveying phones and accessories worth about ₦100 million, was attacked by armed robbers on August 5, 2026, while travelling from Lagos to Onitsha.
Following investigations, police operatives arrested the five suspects in Ogun State and recovered the mobile phones and chargers.
The suspects remain in police custody as efforts continue to arrest other alleged members of the gang and recover the remaining stolen property.
Police intercept over 80kg of alleged Colorado
In another operation, the police said they arrested a 53-year-old driver, Onyebuchi Ononiwu, for allegedly being in possession of hard drugs.
The suspect was reportedly intercepted on July 16, 2026, following actionable intelligence.
Police said operatives recovered 120 wraps of a substance identified as “Kolos,” also known as Colorado, weighing more than 80 kilogrammes and estimated to be worth several millions of naira.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the consignment was allegedly transported from Lagos to Abuja.
The police also said investigations had uncovered possible involvement of the transport company in the movement of the illicit substance.
Ononiwu is reportedly cooperating with investigators, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other alleged accomplices.
Three arrested over alleged armed robbery, car snatching
The police also announced the arrest of three suspected members of an alleged armed robbery and car-snatching syndicate operating in Abuja and surrounding areas.
The suspects were identified as Ahmed Saidu, also known as Diamond; Alex Gabriel, also known as Junior; and Ahmed Mahudu.
Two vehicles were recovered from the suspects—a red Toyota Corolla and an army-coloured Golf 3.
The police said the arrests followed coordinated intelligence-led operations conducted between August 14 and 19, 2026, across Kaduna State and Abuja.
According to the police, the suspects were linked to a series of armed robberies involving the alleged snatching of exotic vehicles at gunpoint.
During interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to their involvement and implicated one Yakubu Yewa, also known as Y/Come, as the alleged kingpin of the syndicate.
The police said Yewa is currently in custody at the Kuje Correctional Centre, where he is standing trial for armed robbery.
According to the police, the suspects alleged that Yewa coordinated and directed the robbery operations and supervised the disposal of stolen vehicles both within Nigeria and abroad.
The FID-STS said efforts were ongoing to arrest other members of the gang, recover additional stolen vehicles and locate weapons allegedly used in the robberies.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and bringing criminal suspects to justice.
The police urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information that could assist ongoing investigations and efforts to combat crime across the country.
