Police Cybercrime Centre, Bank CEOs Strengthen Partnership Against Financial Crimes

The Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) has strengthened its collaboration with the banking sector as part of efforts to curb cybercrime and financial fraud across the country.
This follows a high-level visit by a delegation from the Body of Bank Chief Executive Officers in Nigeria to the Centre’s headquarters in Abuja. The meeting focused on enhancing strategic cooperation between law enforcement and financial institutions in tackling cyber-related offences.
Director of the Centre, CP Ifeanyi Uche Henry, reaffirmed the commitment of the NPF-NCCC to combating cybercrime at both national and international levels through intelligence-driven policing, digital forensics, and strong institutional partnerships.
He outlined the Centre’s key responsibilities to include investigation and prosecution support for cybercrime cases, digital forensic analysis, social media monitoring, cyber intelligence gathering, threat assessment, and protection of the nation’s critical information infrastructure.
CP Uche noted that collaboration with financial institutions remains essential, as cybercriminals often exploit banking systems to carry out fraudulent activities.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Chairman of the Body of Bank Chief Executive Officers and Managing Director of Signature Bank, Nixon Iwedi, said the visit was a continuation of earlier engagements with the Inspector-General of Police in Lagos. He explained that the initiative is aimed at strengthening cooperation between the police and the banking sector in the fight against cybercrime.
Iwedi also commended the Nigeria Police Force, particularly the NPF-NCCC, for its professionalism and sustained efforts in tackling cybercriminal activities within and beyond Nigeria’s borders.
