The Nigeria Police Force has reported a series of operational successes across six states, including the foiling of an armed bandit attack, prevention of an alleged robbery, arrests of suspected cultists and militia members, and recovery of firearms and other exhibits.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the operations were carried out between August 8 and 10, 2026, following intelligence gathering and distress calls from members of the public.
In Benue State, police operatives on August 9 successfully repelled an attack by armed bandits on the Jootar Police Station in Ukum Local Government Area.
The officers engaged the attackers with superior firepower, forcing them to flee. No police personnel was reported killed or injured in the incident. The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Makurdi, is investigating the case.
Also in Benue, police responded to a distress call over suspected armed robbers who had blocked the highway at Ayati Village in Gwer East LGA. The suspects exchanged gunfire with the police before fleeing into a nearby bush.
Police recovered a locally fabricated revolver, four rounds of live cartridges and a mobile phone from the scene. The roadblock was subsequently dismantled, allowing traffic to resume freely.
In Ekiti State, police arrested a 40-year-old man over an alleged attempted rape and assault of a 96-year-old woman at Emure-Ekiti. The suspect was taken into custody and reportedly confessed to the alleged offence, while the victim was immediately taken to hospital for medical attention. The SCID in Ado-Ekiti is handling the investigation.
Meanwhile, police operations in Akwa Ibom State led to the arrest of eight suspects and the recovery of suspected illicit drugs from criminal hideouts.
In a separate operation at Ikot Ubok Udom Village in Nsit Atai LGA, detectives arrested three suspected cultists allegedly gathered at the location. A single-barrel gun and a pump-action firearm were recovered from the suspects. The SCID, Uyo, is investigating both cases.
In Imo State, police operatives acting on intelligence raided a suspected militia hideout at Odumara Orodo in Mbaitoli LGA on August 8. Eleven suspected militia members were arrested during the operation.
A locally made, charm-fortified bulletproof vest constructed with wood was also recovered from the hideout. The SCID in Owerri is conducting further investigation.
In Ogun State, three suspects were arrested over the alleged theft of company cable wires at a quarry in Odeda on August 9.
Police said the suspects were identified through CCTV footage and subsequently taken into custody for interrogation. Investigators are working to recover the stolen cables and determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged theft.
The Nigeria Police Force said the operations demonstrate its continued efforts to prevent crime, protect lives and property, and respond swiftly to security threats across the country.
