The Nigeria Police Force recorded a series of operational successes across several states in the last 24 hours, including the arrest of suspected criminals, recovery of firearms and ammunition, and the rescue of a kidnap victim.
In Enugu State, police operatives arrested a suspected IPOB/ESN kingpin, Chinonso Umeh, also known as “Onye Army,” during an operation in Imo State. Items recovered from him included a revolver pistol, an AK-47 rifle, assorted ammunition and charms. Officers also arrested two other suspects, Asanya Nnamdi and Abugu Tochukwu, during a patrol, recovering a pump-action gun, 22 live cartridges, a knife, an Allen key and ₦239,200. The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Enugu is investigating the cases.
In Kano State, police arrested 28-year-old Muhammad Isa for allegedly impersonating military personnel and suspected involvement in banditry. Two accomplices reportedly escaped, while officers recovered an AK-47 magazine loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition, 79 additional rounds, military uniforms, caps, a suspected fake military identity card, ATM cards and desert boots. Investigations are ongoing.
In Zamfara State, tactical police teams and other security agencies were deployed to suspected escape routes following a bandit attack on Geba village, with the SCID in Gusau leading investigations.
In Niger State, detectives visited the scene of a double homicide in Woko village, evacuated the victims’ bodies to the General Hospital, New Bussa, for autopsy and commenced investigations to identify those responsible.
In Oyo State, security operatives rescued a kidnapped farmer, Owoade Mathew, unhurt after coordinated bush-combing operations involving the police, Amotekun Corps, vigilantes and local hunters. The victim has been reunited with his family, while investigations into the kidnapping and an armed robbery case continue.
In Ogun State, police arrested Mubarak Ibrahim and Mohammed Yusuf over the alleged vandalism and theft of electrical infrastructure at Ogere trailer park market. Stolen electrical conductors and other equipment were recovered, while the suspects are expected to be charged in court after investigations.
Meanwhile, in Cross River State, police tracked and arrested a rape suspect, Henry Erim. The survivor was taken to Cottage Hospital, Akpet Central, for medical examination, while the suspect reportedly confessed to the offence and remains in police custody pending further investigation.
