The Nigeria Police Force has reported a series of operational successes recorded across several states and the Federal Capital Territory between August 15 and 17, 2026, including arrests, recovery of firearms and ammunition, rescue of an accident victim and the release of abducted persons.
In Anambra State, police operatives arrested a 49-year-old man at Obosi in Idemili North Local Government Area following credible intelligence. A pump-action rifle and 50 live cartridges were recovered from the suspect.
In Bayelsa State, police responded to a boat accident involving a market boat and a hand-pulled canoe between two communities in Southern Ijaw LGA. The capsized canoe was recovered, while the boat captain and two crew members were arrested for investigation.
In Benue State, police conducting search-and-rescue operations along the Otukpo-Adoka Road came under attack in Amla Icho Forest. During the ensuing gun battle, one suspected bandit was neutralised. An AK-47 rifle and three rounds of live ammunition were recovered.
Meanwhile, in Delta State, police arrested a suspect allegedly involved in the illegal disposal of oil-contaminated sludge along the Ughelli-Iyede Expressway. A truck believed to have been used in the operation was also recovered. In a separate development, eight of 11 suspects who escaped from lawful custody at a police facility in Ughelli were re-arrested.
In the FCT, police arrested three suspected vandals allegedly caught destroying public infrastructure along 3 Constitution Avenue. In another incident at Karsana District, officers rescued a motorist from a mob following a road traffic accident and restored normalcy in the area.
Kogi State recorded the release of 12 abducted victims at Abocho, Dekina LGA, following sustained pressure by security forces. The victims were debriefed at the Divisional Police Headquarters before being reunited with their families.
In Niger State, police recovered an AK-47 rifle, a magazine containing 19 rounds of live ammunition, an empty magazine and 55 rounds of RPG ammunition along suspected criminal routes in Crusher Genu Village, Rijau LGA.
In Oyo State, police arrested a suspected armed robbery suspect at his hideout in Olupeju, Kudeti, Ibadan, recovering a Beretta pistol and a locally fabricated single-barrel gun.
Police also arrested a suspected arms fabricator at Ajo Village in the Sanyo area of Ibadan. A search of his residence led to the recovery of five locally fabricated single-barrel guns, two live cartridges and other exhibits.
In Ogun State, police arrested three suspects and recovered a stolen Bajaj motorcycle after receiving information about an attempt to sell the unregistered motorcycle. The suspects reportedly confessed to stealing it from a farming location.
The Police Force said investigations into the various cases are ongoing at the respective State Criminal Investigation Departments in Awka, Yenagoa, Makurdi, Asaba, Abuja, Lokoja, Minna, Ibadan and Abeokuta.
