A popular Asaba-based content creator, popularly known as Odogwo Asaba, has been arrested by the police over allegations of sexually assaulting a 20-year-old woman, Favour Agbro, who later died by suicide.
According to claims shared by social media activist Israel Joe, Favour, who was from Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, had contacted the content creator after learning that he trained aspiring creators on how to monetize their TikTok and Facebook accounts.
The activist alleged that the content creator invited Favour to Asaba, promising to mentor her and help her grow her online presence. Upon arriving in the city, she was reportedly directed to meet him in a hotel room, where he allegedly conducted his training sessions.
The report further alleged that Favour had informed him during their WhatsApp conversations that she was not interested in any romantic or sexual relationship and had only agreed to the meeting after being assured it was strictly for professional purposes.
However, Israel Joe alleged that the content creator sexually assaulted her in the hotel room against her will and that she sustained injuries during the incident.
According to the activist, Favour later called her twin sister and mother in distress to recount the alleged assault. She subsequently returned to Warri after her family sent her transport fare.
The report also claimed that Favour reported the incident to an activist but was allegedly discouraged after being told that the accused was influential and that obtaining justice would be difficult.
The activist further alleged that the emotional trauma led Favour to ingest a poisonous substance, resulting in her death by suicide.
In an update, Israel Joe announced that the suspect, said to be 44 years old, had been arrested by the police and is currently in custody while investigations continue. He added that more information and video evidence would be made available.
The incident has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians calling for a thorough investigation and justice for the deceased.
Police have yet to issue a detailed public statement on the case. The allegations remain unproven, and the suspect is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
