President Tinubu Reconstitutes Police Academy Governing Council


President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the 16-member governing council of the Nigeria Police Academy, appointing the Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Gaidam, as chairman.


According to a State House press release, the council also includes key institutional representatives such as the Chairman of the Police Service Commission and the Inspector-General of Police. Representatives from the Federal Ministries of Education, Finance, and Justice are also part of the council.


The President further named six members to represent the country’s geopolitical zones. They are Babagana Zannah Adam (North East), Emmanuel Torkuma Manger (North Central), Maigari Abati Dikko (North West), Dubem A. Obaze (South East), Ajibogere Toyin (South West), and Udom Udo Ekpoudom (South South).


Other members include the Commandant of the Academy, the Provost, and the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of training, who will serve in an ex officio capacity, while the Registrar of the Academy will act as secretary to the council.


The announcement was made in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on April 20, 2026.
