The Police Service Commission (PSC) has dismissed as fake a press release circulating on social media claiming that a medical screening exercise for Nigeria Police Force recruitment candidates would hold from July 16 to 22, 2026.
In a disclaimer issued on Friday, the Commission said the purported statement, allegedly signed by its Head of Protocol and Public Relations, was not issued by the PSC and should be disregarded.
According to the Commission, the fake publication also falsely referred to a “State Police Act 2026” and claimed that successful applicants would be posted to their states of origin, describing the document as the handiwork of fraudsters.
The PSC disclosed that it held a stakeholders’ meeting on Thursday, July 9, involving officials of the Commission, the Nigeria Police Force, the Federal Character Commission and the Ministry of Police Affairs to discuss the ongoing recruitment exercise.
It said an official statement would be released in due course to communicate the outcome of the meeting and announce the next phase of the recruitment process, urging applicants and the public to await only verified information from the Commission.
The Commission reiterated that all authentic updates on the recruitment exercise would be published exclusively through its official website, recruitment portal, email address and verified social media platforms.
The PSC also stressed that the recruitment process is free of charge and warned applicants against falling victim to misinformation or fraudsters demanding payment at any stage of the exercise.
It further cautioned that anyone found circulating fake press releases or engaging in recruitment-related fraud would face legal consequences.
