PSC Promotes 13 CPs to AIGs, 17 DCPs to CPs in Merit-Based Exercise


The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 13 Commissioners of Police (CPs) to the rank of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) after they successfully passed written examinations and oral interviews conducted at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
The commission said the list of the promoted officers has been forwarded to the Inspector-General of Police for immediate implementation.
Those elevated to the rank of AIG include Emmanuel Ado Christopher, former Commissioner of Police in Yobe State; Joseph Eribo, former CP in Ekiti State; Dantawaye Miller, former CP of the Federal Capital Territory; Uche Ifeanyi Henry, Director of the Nigeria Police Force National Cyber Crime Centre; Olarenwaju Peter Ogunlowo, former CP in Ogun State; Muhammad Dahiru, former CP in Jigawa State; and Dankombo Morris, former CP in Adamawa State.
Others are Bello Shehu, former CP in Katsina State; Ibrahim B. Maikaba, former CP in Zamfara State; Ahmed Musa, former CP in Sokoto State; Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, former CP in Lagos State; Simeon Udofia Akpanudom, former CP of the Anti-Fraud FCID Annex Lagos; and Haruna Olufemi, former CP in Oyo State.
In the same promotion exercise, the PSC also elevated 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) to the rank of Commissioners of Police (CPs). Among them are Abdulrahim Audu Shaibu, Commander of NIWA in Lokoja; Abbas Sule of DFA INTERPOL; Ojugbele E. Adebola of Operations, Zone 2 Lagos; Preye Raymond Egbetokun of DFA Akwa Ibom Command; and Kayode Uthman Magaji of Community Policing at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Also promoted to the rank of CP are Adebisi Bola Lateef of DFA Osun Command; Markus Ishaku Basiran of DFA Zone 6 Calabar; Silas Bamidele Aremu of the Department of Logistics and Supply Administration; Sylvester Onyie Uzoefuna of Operations in Cross River Command; Magaji Ismaila of Projects at the Police Affairs Bureau, Force Headquarters; Theodore Chukwuemeka Obasi of Maritime Police, Lagos; and Sarah Idowu Ehindero of DFA Ogun State Command.
Others are Hayatu Shaffa Hassan of the State Intelligence Department in Abia State Command; Mohammed Babakura of the Inspectorate Department; Danjuma I. Yahaya of Operations in Zone 12 Bauchi; and Rebecca Uchenna Okereke, Band Master.
The commission also approved the promotion of 19 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) to Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), including Rilwan Shaibu of PTS Nekede; Grace Obiageli Ejiofor of Disaster Management at Force Headquarters Abuja; Ibrahim Ada Yusuf of Idu Railway Police Division Abuja; Muazu Imaru Dange of COR T/Wada Kano; and Samuel Ebikebina Debekeme of Bayelsa State Command.
In addition, 35 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) were promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs).
Chairman of the Police Service Commission, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police Hashimu Salihu Argungu, said the promotions were based strictly on merit and performance. He urged the officers to justify their new ranks through greater commitment to professional policing and national security.
Argungu noted that promotion within the commission follows a transparent process that includes examinations and interviews, stressing that officers who fail the assessment are required to retake it, with retirement applicable after three unsuccessful attempts in line with public service rules.
He also commended members of the PSC board and the commission’s secretary for their contributions to the successful conduct of the promotion exercise.
The PSC reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening professionalism and accountability in the Nigeria Police Force through transparent and merit-driven promotion processes.
