Tinubu Appoints AIG Tunji Disu as New IGP, Removes Egbetokun

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reportedly approved the removal of Kayode Egbetokun as Inspector-General of Police and appointed Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Olatunji Disu as his replacement in a significant restructuring of the country’s security leadership.
Multiple sources within the police hierarchy confirmed the development on Tuesday, describing it as a major transition within the Nigerian Police Force (NPF). While an official announcement from the Presidency is expected, senior security officials have verified the change in leadership.
According to one top official, the appointment is final and will be formally communicated to the public soon. Another source also confirmed that the transition process is already underway.
Before his elevation, AIG Olatunji Disu served in several key roles within the police force, including as Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and as head of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT). He is widely recognized for his experience in intelligence-led policing and professional service.
The leadership change comes amid ongoing government efforts to strengthen national security and address emerging security challenges across the country. Efforts to obtain an official reaction from the Force Public Relations Office were still ongoing at the time of filing this report.
