Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved fresh appointments in Nigeria’s energy sector, naming a new Executive Secretary for the Petroleum Technology Development Fund and extending the tenure of the Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President appointed Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu as the new Executive Secretary of PTDF.
Aliyu succeeds Ahmed Galadima Aminu, who resigned from the position to pursue his governorship ambition in Adamawa State ahead of the 2027 elections. The appointment takes immediate effect.
According to the statement, Tinubu said Aliyu’s appointment aligns with his administration’s drive to strengthen institutions in the petroleum sector, especially in human capital development and innovation.
He expressed confidence that the new PTDF chief would use his academic and administrative experience to reposition the agency.
The President also approved the renewal of the appointment of Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of TCN for a second and final term.
The statement said the extension followed an assessment of Abdulaziz’s performance, particularly in improving grid stability, expanding transmission capacity and advancing the modernisation of the national electricity network.
Abdulaziz, who has spent more than 30 years in the power sector, was also credited with contributing to regional electricity cooperation through his role in the West African Power Pool.
Tinubu urged both appointees to discharge their responsibilities with integrity, dedication and commitment to national service in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
