President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday formally decorated Tunji Disu with his new rank following his appointment as the Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), less than 24 hours after he succeeded Kayode Egbetokun, who stepped down from the position citing personal reasons.
Disu, who previously served as an Assistant Inspector-General of Police, was until his elevation deployed to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Alagbon, Lagos. He had been assigned to the unit barely two weeks ago to strengthen efforts at combating crime nationwide.
The brief decoration ceremony took place at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, and was attended by senior ministers and other top government officials.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that the Police Service Commission (PSC) has drawn up a list of 35 senior officers for compulsory retirement, including eight Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs), in connection with the leadership transition following Egbetokun’s exit.
