Global ride-hailing company, Uber, has announced plans to discontinue its operations in Nigeria after 12 years of service in the country.
The company disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, saying its decision followed a comprehensive review of its business operations.
Uber said its services in Nigeria would officially cease on September 2, 2026, bringing an end to its operations that began with its launch in Lagos in 2014.
The company expressed appreciation to Nigerians who used its platform for daily transportation, including commuting, visiting family and friends, and moving around the city.
“We know this may cause disruption to your routine, and we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience,” Uber said.
The company added that its help centre would remain available until September 23 to assist customers with outstanding account-related enquiries.
Uber’s operations in Nigeria had faced several challenges over the years, particularly from drivers who protested over fare reductions, commission rates and alleged poor treatment.
Drivers staged protests and industrial actions over the issues in 2017, 2023 and 2025.
The latest announcement marks Uber’s withdrawal from another African market, with the company having exited 14 countries across Asia and Africa since it commenced global operations in 2009.
